
From Miami to Maryland: Biography
Isai Hernandez was born in Caracas, Venezuela and raised in Miami, Florida. Isai freelanced South Florida as a professional trumpeter with experience in solo, jazz, classical, chamber, Broadway, and other genres. In addition to this, he was an active orchestral / band performer in South Florida having collaborated with the Klezmer Company Orchestra, Florida Wind Symphony, Greater Miami Symphonic Band, and all university ensembles at FAU (Florida Atlantic University). He was a former member of the Miami Top Brass Quintet where he played for private and public events in the Miami area. He’s currently a member of the national touring ensemble King’s Brass led by Tim Zimmerman.
Isai has also earned accolades such as being a winner of the FAU Concerto and Aria Competition where he performed the Haydn Trumpet Concerto, quarter finalist for National Trumpet Competition, Marching Owls Award of Distinction, and winning the fellowship position at the University of Maryland Terrapin Brass quintet. He’s also an advocate for music education, having taught music in Miami Dade County Public Schools for 3 years. Teachings include general music at Gratigny Elementary and Nathan B. Young Elementary School. Also, having taught at CCLAN school of music. Isai earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Trumpet Performance from Florida Atlantic University and Master in Music Degree from University of Maryland.
He has studied with Brian Stanley (3rd trumpet Naples Philharmonic), Dr. Courtney Jones, and Chris Gekker. Isai began playing trumpet at the age of 11 and has been playing ever since. He’s currently building his career as a freelance musician and trumpet instructor in the D.C./ Maryland/ Virginia area. Isai is on a mission to teach and inspire the next generation of musicians. He hopes to educate and promote classical music to new audience members to preserve this art form.
